The units are flat pack for ease of delivery which also allows easy storage at home. Delivery can be made across the UK via our courier service for which we charge cost price. Alternatively, we would love to welcome you to our place near Wrexham (just over the border into North East Wales) where we can fit the unit whilst you wait.  We are also looking to offer a home fitment service but we are starting small and hence do not want to overpromise and under deliver in this regard – just to give us a call and we can see what we can do.

We don’t yet offer delivery outside the UK but this could be accommodated in certain cases.

Yes! One of the key points for us in development was the versatility to use the unit across different types of van. We love the VW but there are many other equally capable and enjoyable types of vehicle on the road. We are developing the MakRak for other vans also so if your vehicle isn’t on the list we’d love to hear from you as we will do our utmost to work something out.

At the moment the MakRak does not fit these types of vehicles. Due to the more extensive interior plastic trims the standard anchor points are generally hidden and as our product is deigned to require no vehicle modifications, we have not concentrated on these vehicles. However, please feel free to contact us – we will always do our best to find a solution!

For the VW Kombi – yes. MakRak was born for use in our own VW Transporter Kombi – we needed the five seat functionality, wanted to retain the comfort and safety of the factory seats and seatbelts but did not want to make alterations to the configuration of the vehicle. The advantage of the VW over other vans in this regard is that the standard VW seats fold forward which allows the MakRak to be folded out to create the double bed.

We’ve not seen the Vivaro or Transit Custom with folding factory seats and they also tend to have the factory bulkhead in place behind the seats although we believe these are relatively simple to remove (please check with your insurance provider as this may alter your policy). Even with the bulkhead removed the seats are fixed. It is however still possible to fit the MakRak but it won’t be able to be extended to a full double bed with fixed rear seats in place.

This is a 5-10mins job. MakRak is fitted with 4 bolts to your vehicles existing load securing points. It is simply a case of removing these (and the side shelves if fitted) with simple tools and lifting the unit out. The unit can be stored ‘as is’ or further disassembled back to its original ‘flat pack’ condition if space is at a premium – disassembly would take a further 10mins.

The shelf runners that are fitted by us are high quality slides that have a load rating of 200kg fully extended. They are sourced locally from one of the leading global experts in the design and manufacture of industrial telescopic slides. However, we advise all users to act with caution – like any such system the quoted load ratings are often in ‘ideal’ conditions and are for a static load. From our own experience they are fully operational with a tray loaded fully for a 2 week holiday including a full camping fridge, portable BBQ, camping gas bottle, camping stove and over 6 baskets full of camping equipment, food and clothing.

MakRak is manufactured from powder coated steel – it is fully waterproof. The tray base is composed of a phenolic ply sheet; a hard wearing material used for trailer bases which is hard wearing and water resistant also. 

The MakRak is sized to take a standard size double mattress of 140cm x 190cm dimensions. As personal users of the MakRak, we have been impressed with one of the sofa bed mattresses sold by IKEA as this has a perfect split with zip allowing the front third of the mattress to fold in the same way as the MakRak. Although we don’t currently supply mattresses, we are actively seeking a supplier partner for the mattress so feedback on what you would like is welcome.

Although we don’t have retail premises we would love to welcome you to our manufacturing location near Wrexham, North Wales. We are also planning to attend a number of camper van type shows and festivals during 2025 so please keep an eye of the news pages. We’d love to meet you there!

With the drawer system fitted the clearance from the top of the tray to the underside of the bed is 570cm. Without the drawer system the clearance above your van floor is Y640cm. *Not sure where we would find these measurements?*

The unit is sized on a carpeted and sound insulated VW Transporter van (Kombi) and the width of the unit is given on our website. The unit has fitted without problem in a ply lined 2022 model Vivaro and an unlined Transit Custom. The Transit Custom is slightly wider between the arches than both so we wouldn’t anticipate any issues even with thick ply lining. But please check the width between the arches of your van – if in any doubt please give us a call!

Yes - for us this was absolutely key at MakRak. We believe the unit adds to the versatility of your van – either fully in place with a pull out drawer and upper fixed shelf; with the top section removed allowing higher loads to be placed on the shelf; or fully removed in minutes the van is back to standard. Travel your way!

The simplicity of the system means very few moving parts and hence there isn’t much to go wrong! However, we offer a one year warranty on the product and as a business the support continues thereafter.
